Algonquin Park in winter has always been a favorite time and place to capture moments like this with Canada jays. As they soar about from tree to tree caching food, being able to capture a moment when they softly land on a snowy branch is magical, especially when enhanced by some lovely backlight.

Canada jays are particularly vulnerable to extreme heat events and the current trend of planetary warming is causing food caches to spoil before they can be used throughout winter. As a result, the birds may soon become limited to the northernmost range of their habitat, making Algonquin sightings less common.
