White animals are notoriously difficult in the medium of scratchboard. Too heavy a hand, and you easily compromise that clay layer which is only as thick as a piece of card stock paper. Dramatic light is critical in depicting white animals without the aid of color and in providing necessary value transitions. This snowy egret was definitely a challenge in all respects.
