While kayaking this summer I spotted this kingbird, perched near the shoreline, watching me intently. I just love insectivorous birds that swoop over the water catching prey. The spider web was a fun addition, and something I've done in a couple of pieces. Spiders have a way of knowing where the optimal places are to catch food in their webs, and branches overhanging water are one of those ideal locations. I loved exploring the idea of both animals sitting in the right place waiting for something to fly by.
