In mulling over doing a lion portrait, I knew I didn't want the traditional regal male with coiffed mane. I wanted a scrappy young lion and wanted to show him post battle with rival males. I searched first for the look in the eyes I was after. Dejected, but still a bit of fire there. Then I sourced out photos of scarred lion faces. It is incredible how shredded up they can get.The combination of the two is the end result. He's the weary loser, but won't give up just yet.
